In August 2016, with support from the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau, the police of Chenjiaqiao set up a security volunteer team made up of foreign people. There are around ten members in the team who come from France, Iran, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia and other countries. Habib joined the team. They regularly carry out security patrols and traffic order assistance programs. Besides this, they shoulder the responsibility of promoting legal knowledge: the team holds information sessions for incoming foreigners to remind them to register at exit-entry agencies to avoid unnecessary troubles.
Lately, Shanghai has pushed forward the overall regulation of traffic violations and firework security control. As a security volunteer, Habib accompanied the police to carry out these new policies in communities and on the streets.
“Shanghai is not only an open city but also a metropolis making constant progress. As a foreigner, I feel lucky to have witnessed the improving community administration and traffic order. I believe that China is sure to attract more foreigners to work and live. It is a wise choice to come to Shanghai!” says Habib in fluent Mandarin. “The reform and opening up has brought about new opportunities for China and also better chances for every individual.”
(Habib’s wishes for China’s further reform and opening up: The achievement of the past 40 years of reform and opening up is not only manifested by the growth of cities and the countryside, the takeoff of the economy, the improvement of people’s living standards, the advancement of technology and the enrichment of information, but also reflected by Chinese people’s unswerving efforts and open mindset. I believe that with further reform and opening up and the long-term growth of the Belt and Road Initiative, Sino-Pakistan economic ties will grow stronger and the two countries’ friendship will go further and become everlasting.)
